My Mac will not allow me to open Prism once it is downloaded onto my computer.

Prism Video Converter does work with MACs so there may be something that is blocking your access.  If you can't open the program, you may need to delete the program and try to download it again from iTunes.  If you can't open the source file, then you may need to download an additional codec.  Take a look at the program's support FAQ and see if that helps:  http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/support.html.

OK, I figured out a way to compress without Prism. I uploaded the my 175MB video to youtube and then downloaded an MP4 which brought it down to about 85MB. Problem solved. Still looking for a converter that will work with my less than two year old Mac though. Wish me luck!

Another one that some students like to use is Format Factory. Just try a few out and hopefully you'll find one that works best for you!

If your Apple computer is a laptop or desktop (not an iPad) and not too, too old, you should have QuickTime 7 or higher installed. With this program you could try to open your movie file by choosing File, Open and then, once it's open, choose File, Export and then select a setting such as iPhone. Click Save/Export which will convert it to an M4V which is one of the accepted formats and makes the file smaller. Also, length of time makes a video larger, so try making shorter, more concise videos. Hope that helps.

To open and use dowloaded programs from the internet go to: System Preferences - Security & Privacy - General - Allow apps downloaded from: Mac App Store and identified developers
